Vox II: Ad Homines

‘Vox II: Ad Homines’ is an interactive audience participatory piece combining AI, AR and the Internet of Things. Commissioned by trombonist Riley Leitch, it was premiered at Chicago’s Constellation performing arts theatre in January 2020.

A custom AI model listens to the solo trombonist’s playing in real time and responds to their material changes by sending a signal to the cloud. This signal will trigger the audience members’ phones to load a new sound, which they can perform with using a purpose-built AR interface, all neatly contained in the free Vox II mobile application.

The result is be a flexible and free jam session between the entire audience, with the Trombonist at the helm as soloist/conductor, empowered by the AI system.
